Aurigma updates code signing certificate on all products

posted by Andrew on 19 July 2012, 14:57

Aurigma has signed all Image Uploader, Upload Suite, and File Downloader releases with updated Java/ActiveX code signing certificates.  Developers should make sure to update the binaries on all websites that use Aurigma to ensure that the Java/ActiveX applets do not generate security dialogues for expired certificates.

The old code signing certificates are set to expire on the 26th of July, 2012. So, developers need to be sure to update Aurigma Java/ActiveX certificates to the new version before that date to ensure and maintain a seamless end user uploading experience.  End users don’t like to see expired certificates, and Aurigma feels strongly that it is our mandate to ensure that all our customers are supported with the latest updates; therefore we have updated the code signing certificates on all releases back to version 5.  We’ve got your back.  All of the updated versions are available for free from Aurigma at:

http://www.aurigma.com/Products/ImageUploader/FreeTrial/OldVersions.aspx - Image Uploader and Upload Suite

http://www.aurigma.com/Products/FileDownloader/LegacyDownloads.aspx - File Downloader

You can rest assured that the binaries themselves have not changed, so the new certificates will work seamlessly with your website and will not generate compatibility issues for your code build. The only difference in the new binaries is that now they have the new code signing certificates integrated.

What version to download?

  1. If you have version 7.x.x or 8.x.x, just download an appropriate version. For example, if you are using version 7.0.37, find 7.0.37 in the list and download it.
  2. If you have version 5.x, you should download 5.8.1.0 binaries-only
  3. If you have version 6.x, you should download 6.5.19 (any package will work).

The rule of the thumb is the following: if the package date is 7/19/2012 or higher, it means that this package is signed with the latest certificate. Otherwise, it is signed with outdated certificate.

How to update?

It depends on how you are using Image Uploader/Upload Suite:

  1. If you are using ASP.NET control, you should update Aurigma.ImageUploader.dll in the /bin folder.
  2. If you are using PHP library, you should overwrite the content of the ImageUploaderPHP folder.
  3. In all other cases (i.e. when you insert it using JavaScript library), you should update .cab, .jar and .js files from the Scripts folder.

Note, if you are using newer version that you had before, make sure that the version number in your code is correct. For example, if you have version 6.1.4, after you update it to 6.5.19, you should update javaAppletVersion param appropriately.

Aurigma uploader goes mobile!

Hi guys!

Some time ago I have announced an upload solution for iOS platform. Today this product becomes available at last! We called it Aurigma Up.

Aurigma Up icon.

What is Aurigma Up?

Let me refresh your mind and explain what is this product for.

Apple did a good job selling their iPhone. Tens of millions of people have this handset and they take enormous amount of pictures using its built-in camera daily. If you build a website that have something to do with people's photos, you would probably love to give the iPhone users an ability to upload their shots directly to your website.

Before Aurigma Up appeared, there were two ways to transfer photos from iPhone to a website: (a) have the users to grab them to PC/Mac first, and then upload them from there, or (b) create a special iPhone application that can send photos to your website, submit it to App Store, and have the users to launch this app every time they need to upload files from iPhone.

Apparently, the first way is troublesome for the users and the second one - for you. Fortunately, Aurigma Up offers the third way that is convenient for both you and your users.

How it works?

The idea is simple:

  1. Users install a special app from AppStore called Aurigma Up.
  2. When they navigate your mobile website, they click a link/button labeled Upload Photos or something like this and Aurigma Up shows up.
  3. They select photos in the Aurigma Up and tap Start Upload button.
  4. As soon as the upload is completed, they are brought back to the browser. It can be either the same page or some other page displaying the uploaded files. It is up to you.

For better understanding, I recommend to try out online demo. Just install Aurigma Up from AppStore on your iPhone, and then type in i.aurigma.com in Safari.

Aurigma Image Uploader on iPhone

Hello everyone!

Today I would like to tell you about our new project which we hope will become pretty revolutionary product. We working on a prototype and I think we will be able to present it in the nearest future.

Briefly speaking, we are trying to bring our upload technologies to iPhone/iPad platform. If we succeed we are definitely going to do the same for other major mobile platforms.

As you apparently know, Apple does not provide any means to upload anything from iPhone/iPad unless there is a special application that can send files to your site. Their browser does not support even standard HTML upload functionality, not to mention Flash or Silverlight. So if you want your users to upload photos taken on their iPhones, you have to write your own app, deal with Apple to get it to AppStore, etc. Too much headache!

What we are going to introduce is the universal upload app which will be able to transfer files to any website. It will be launched and configured through the Safari (no user interaction required!). As soon as the upload completes, the user gets back to the browser.

To make the whole idea more clear, I have prepare few screenshots.

Step 1. Open the upload page

The users go to your website and opens the upload page. Here they will see the Upload button. When the you click it, Aurigma iPhone Uploader app is automatically launched.

Note, it is assumed that this app is already installed. So we should warn the user that if it is not available yet, they should install it (you will be able to provide a direct link to AppStore).

Step 2. Select photos to upload

When the application is launched, the users will be able to select photos on his iPhone and add them to the upload list.

Step 3. Upload process

When they are all set, they will click Start Upload, and the upload process starts. As its elder PC sibling, Aurigma iPhone Uploader will display the progress bar, etc.

Step 4. Get back to the website

When the upload completes, Safari is launched again, and the user is redirected to the gallery page to review the uploaded files (or it may be the same page as the start page if necessary).

It seems pretty elegant solution to me. Hope you will agree with me on this. :)

Any thoughts/remarks/comments on this? Do not hesitate to share your ideas with us at info@aurigma.com, and we will help you to reach your iPhone/iPad users and let them to upload their files without having to copy files to their desktop computers first.
